In Mediterranean Countries the intensive cultivation, the processing and industrial storage of tomatoes starts at the beginning of the last century and continues today. Nei paesi mediterranei la coltivazione intensiva e la trasformazione e conservazione industriale del pomodoro avviene da inizio secolo. Praticata soprattutto in Puglia, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria e Sicilia, in Italia ha una lunga tradizione ed il nostro Paese figura al terzo posto nella graduatoria mondiale per la produzione e l’esportazione. La raccolta viene fatta ancora in gran parte a mano,si esegue a partire da Luglio per le variet\u00e0 pi\u00f9 precoci e si protrae a tutto Agosto e Settembre. L\u2019immagine dei campi coltivati che si presenta nei mesi pi\u00f9 caldi dell\u2019anno mi ha spinto a riflettere sulle condizioni lavorative degli individui che vengono utilizzati per la raccolta dei pomodori. Vivere in questi luoghi vuol dire conoscere tutte le dinamiche che muovono l\u2019economia di queste zone dell\u2019Italia e che evidenziano ancor di pi\u00f9 l\u2019impossibilit\u00e0 di controllo e regolamentazione di determinate attivit\u00e0 lavorative. Ho immaginato cosa significa lavorare ore ed ore sotto il sole battente senza il supporto di una struttura veramente organizzata e in che modo design e tecnologia potessero contribuire a migliorare le condizioni lavorative in una realt\u00e0 siffatta. Un oggetto pensato per soddisfare una necessit\u00e0,quasi un attrezzo da lavoro che a fine giornata verr\u00e0 appeso al muro accanto alle ceste e agli stivali. Un elemento pensato per ripararsi dal sole che una volta indossato sia in grado di creare ombra e allo stesso tempo di catturare i raggi solari e convertirli in energia utilizzata per alimentare una piccola ventola di raffrescamento. Un telaio in multistrato curvato conformato ergonomicamente, tende nella parte superiore della struttura utilizzata per ripararsi dai raggi solari, un sistema di cellule fotovoltaiche a film sottile che integrate con sistemi di microbatteria al litio sono in grado di alimentare una o pi\u00f9 piccole ventole inserite nella struttura stessa destinate ad alleviare il senso di calore percepito durante le ore pi\u00f9 calde del giorno.
\nPracticed mainly in Puglia, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria and Sicily, Italy has a long tradition in this kind of cultivation; in fact our country is the third place in the world for the production and export of tomatoes. Harvesting is still done largely by hand and starts in July, for the earliest varieties, and goes on through August and September. The image of the fields during the hottest months of the year prompted me to reflect on the working conditions of men who are used to gather tomatoes. On one side, living in these particular places of Italy means to know all the dynamics that drive the economy of these areas but, on the other side, it shows how impossible is to control and regulate certain business activities. I imagined what it means working hours and hours in the direct sunlight without the support of a very organized structure and I thought about the way in which design and technology could help to improve working conditions in such a reality.\u00a0An object designed to satisfy a need, an object like a working tool that could be hung on the wall next to the baskets and the boots at the end of the working day. An item designed to shelter from the sun that when worn will be able to create shadow and, at the same time, to capture the warm sunlight and convert it into energy used to power a small fan cooling.
\nA bent playwood frame ergonomic shaped tent at the top of the structure is used to shelter from the sun, a system of non- rigid photovoltaic cells that, integrated with a systems of microbatteries lithium, are capable of powering one or more small fans placed in the very structure intended to alleviate the sense of warmth received during the hottest hours of the day.
