\nProduct:<\/em> Innovative products for gardening. Our first product is a vase-flower box for balcony balustrades.
\nType of organization:<\/em> Design start-up. The company was born three years ago. It produces and markets its products in Israel and abroad.
\nThe partners are:<\/em> Maya Golan, a lawyer who deals with the legal sector and the sales; Meir Haklay, a Judo school manager, is responsible for the company development; Avi Youlus, engineer and lawyer, is responsible for the economic area; Roy Joulus, studied design at Ascola Meimeid College, has a BA in business economics, is responsible for the sales and marketing (35 years old).
\nWhen and how did the project originate?<\/em> We started developing the idea in 2006. Then, in 2008 we left our jobs in the Hi-tech field. The idea originated from the wish to cultivate green in small flats in Tel Aviv, even in small balconies where there is no space for earth and vases. After many trials on the vase suspension, we put together two old flower boxes and set them astride on a balustrade with the help of a metallic rest, which became rusty though. It was right then that we got the idea of a strong plastic vase in a wide range of colours, one and twofold, which could be put astride any balustrade. So from a banal vase it became a design piece.
\nHow much did you invest to start the company?<\/em> Dozens of thousands of euros.
\nWho insteded the money?<\/em> We invested our savings. I (Roy) collected my parents\u2019 pension fund and we started some mortgages on our flats and then we obtained other loans. The Keren Shemesh fund for young innovative entrepreneurs really helped us, both as a mentor and with a loan.
\nHow far have you gone with the project?<\/em> We distribute to about 500 nursery gardens, design shops, flower shops and supermarket chains in Israel, Europe (Carrefour, Casino, Castorama), the United States (The Home Depot, Commerce Corporation), in Australia and Latin America we have distributors and agents.
\nWhen did you understand that the project had overcome the ideational phase and had become a product?<\/em> It happened when the first series came out, when we saw the products coming out of the matrixes and we started wrapping them, all night long. In that moment it was clear that the adventure had started.
\nHas there been a moment when you wanted to give up?<\/em> There always are moments of crisis on the way. When the activity grows, the risk of losing everything rises, but we never considered giving up. The people working at Greenbo know how to deal with hardships. This awareness reinforced our association.
\nA handbook for young design entrepreneurs?<\/em><\/p>\n

  1. The organizing phase is the longest and the most important. Here you have to understand if your enterprise is competitive, risky and how many resources it needs.<\/li>\n
  2. Identify your weaknesses. You need to fill in these spaces with a partner who can complement your skills; otherwise you\u2019ll have to face everything by yourselves with a big effort.<\/li>\n
  3. Choose a subject you\u2019re passionate about. Entrepreneurship requires many hours of our daily life. If you don\u2019t like what you do you won\u2019t be able to develop the activity in the course of time.<\/li>\n
  4. An entrepreneur sacrifices a lot of his private life, a lot more than any employee. Nobody will do what you don\u2019t do.<\/li>\n
  5. Do not fall in love with your products. An objective point of view is the instrument, which allows us to learn from our mistakes and to mend them.<\/li>\n
  6. The customer is always right. The company exists thanks to its customers. Keep in touch with your customers.<\/li>\n
  7. Ask and learn from other people, because you don\u2019t know everything. If you don\u2019t become expert in your field, your clients will notice it and you\u2019ll lose them.<\/li>\n
  8. Find an organization to guide and assist you in the beginning. In Israel the Keren Shemesh fund is a non-profit organization providing professional support and loans to new companies.<\/li>\n
  9. Try to grow an \u2018elephant skin\u2019 for the difficult moments, but stay humble and balanced even when things are going at full sail.<\/li>\n
  10. The world is made of people, not products. Behind every activity there are the people. Develop contacts and create collaborations. A planted seed today will give its fruits tomorrow.<\/li>\n

    Anything else?<\/em> In July 2012 Greenbo won the Red dot Award (product design winner). Moreover Greenbo also won the second YBI prize (The Prince\u2019s Youth Business International), a contest founded by the Prince of Wales and Barclays bank for the young innovative firms.

    Tipo di organizzazione:<\/em> Startup nel settore design. La ditta \u00e8 nata tre anni fa. Produce e commercializza i suoi prodotti in Israele e all\u2019estero.<\/p>\n

    I soci:<\/em> Maya Golan, avvocato, si occupa della sfera legale e vendita; Meir Haklay, dirige una scuola di Judo, responsabile dello sviluppo dell’ impresa; Avi Youlus, ingegnere e avvocato, responsabile dell’area economica; Roy Joulus, ha studiato design all\u2019Ascola Meimad College, B.A in economia aziendale, responsabile vendita e commercializzazione (35 anni).<\/p>\n

    Quando e come \u00e8 stato avviata l\u2019impresa?<\/em> Abbiamo cominciato a sviluppare l’idea gi\u00e0 nel 2006. Nel 2008 abbiamo lasciato gli impieghi nel settore Hi-tech. L\u2019idea \u00e8 nata dalla volont\u00e0 di coltivare il verde in piccoli appartamenti di Tel Aviv con piccoli balconi, dove non c\u2019\u00e8 spazio per la terra e per i vasi. Dopo tante prove sulla possibilit\u00e0 di sospensione dei vasi, abbiamo montato due vecchie fioriere a cavallo della ringhiera con supporto di metallo che per\u00f2 si \u00e8 arrugginito. A questo punto \u00e8 nata l’idea di fare un vaso di plastica resistente unico e doppio, che si mettesse a cavallo di qualsiasi ringhiera con un\u2019ampia gamma di colori. Cos\u00ec il banale vaso si \u00e8 trasformato in un pezzo di design.<\/p>\n

    Che investimento \u00e8 servito per avviare l\u2019impresa?<\/em>\u00a0Diverse decine di migliaia di Euro.<\/p>\n

    Chi ha investito?<\/em> Abbiamo investito i nostri risparmi. Io (Roy) ho riscosso il fondo pensionistico dei miei genitori e abbiamo preso mutui con ipoteche sui nostri appartamenti e altri prestiti che siamo riusciti ad ottenere. Il fondo per giovani imprese innovative Keren Shemesh ci ha aiutato tanto, come mentore e anche con un prestito.
    \nA che punto si trova il progetto?<\/em> Siamo distribuiti in circa 500 vivai, negozi di design, fiorai e catene di supermercati in Israele. In Europa (Carrefour, Casino, Castorama) , Stati Uniti (The Home Depot, Commerce Corporation), in Australia e America latina abbiamo distributori e agenti.<\/p>\n

    Quando hai sentito che il progetto aveva superato la fase dell\u2019idea per<\/em> divenire un prodotto?<\/em>\u00a0\u00c8 successo con la prima tiratura, quando abbiamo visto i prodotti uscire dagli stampi e ci siamo messi ad imballarli per tutta la notte. In quel momento era chiaro che eravamo partiti per l\u2019avventura.<\/p>\n

    C’\u00e8 stato un momento in cui avresti voluto lasciare tutto?<\/em>\u00a0Ci sono sempre momenti di crisi durante un percorso. Con la crescita dell\u2019attivit\u00e0 aumentano anche i rischi di perdere tutto, ma non abbiamo mai preso in considerazione di lasciar perdere. La materia umana di cui \u00e8 fatta la Greenbo sa affrontare le difficolt\u00e0. Questa consapevolezza ha consolidato la nostra associazione.
    \nIl decalogo ai giovani imprenditori nel settore del design?<\/em><\/p>\n

    1. La prima fase della programmazione \u00e8 la parte pi\u00f9 lunga e importante. Qui dovete capire se l’attivit\u00e0 \u00e8 competitiva, rischiosa e quante risorse richiede.<\/li>\n
    2. Individuate i vostri punti deboli e le aree di disagio. Questi spazi dovrete saperli riempire con un socio che completi le vostre qualit\u00e0 o affrontarli con tanta fatica da soli.<\/li>\n
    3. Scegliete un settore che vi appassiona. L\u2019imprenditoria consuma tantissime ore del nostro quotidiano. Se non piace quello che si fa non si pu\u00f2 sviluppare l’attivit\u00e0 nel corso del tempo.<\/li>\n
    4. L’imprenditore sacrifica molto della sua vita privata, molto pi\u00f9 di un impiegato. Quello che non fai tu non lo far\u00e0 nessun altro per te.<\/li>\n
    5. Non vi innamorate dei vostri prodotti. Un sguardo obiettivo \u00e8 lo strumento per imparare dagli errori e correggerli.<\/li>\n
    6. Il consumatore ha sempre ragione. La ditta esiste grazie al consumatore. Mantenete i contati con i consumatori.<\/li>\n
    7. Chiedete, imparate perch\u00e9 non sapete tutto. Se non diventate esperti nel vostro settore i vostri clienti saranno i primi a capirlo e li perderete.<\/li>\n
    8. Trovate un’ organicazione che vi guidi e assista nei primi tempi. In Israele il fondo Keren Shemesh \u00e8 un’ organizzazione senza scopo di lucro, che d\u00e0 un supporto professionale e prestiti per nuove imprese.<\/li>\n
    9. Sviluppate una \u201cpelle da elefante\u201d per superare i momenti di difficolt\u00e0, ma rimanete modesti ed equilibrati anche quando le cose vanno a gonfie vele.<\/li>\n
    10. Il mondo \u00e8 fatto di persone e non di prodotti. Dietro ogni attivit\u00e0 ci sono le persone. Sviluppate i contatti e create collaborazioni. Un seme seminato oggi porter\u00e0 i frutti domani.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Altro?<\/em> Nel luglio 2012 la Greenbo ha vinto il \u201cRed dot Award\u201d (product design winner).\u00a0La Greenbo ha inoltre vinto il secondo premio del YBI (The Prince’s Youth Business International) \u2013 un concorso fondato dal principe di Galles e la banca Barclays per le giovani imprese\u00a0 innovative.<\/p>\n
